The Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive
History
It all started 25 years ago when Edgar Burton's daughters came home from school and asked if they could collect food for the less fortunate. He was so moved that the Vale veteran began a food drive with his fellow employees that over the years and with more businesses joining in to lend their hands has become the Greater Sudbury Business and Employee Food Drive.
In July 2010, the City of Sudbury lost a great community leader who will never be forgotten. Edgar Burton, the founder and coordinator of the Sudbury Business Employee Food Drive passed away. He is sadly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and all who knew of him.
The Business and Employee Food Drive is now in its 25th year. In honour of Edgar Burton the Food Drive was renamed The Edgar Burton Food Drive in 2010.
The Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive collected over 88 tonnes of food during the 2011 holiday season. This year we hope for even more community participation and support from individuals such as you!
We would like to thank Mr. Edgar Burton and his family for the effort and perseverance that he has shown over the past 25 years with the Greater Sudbury Businesses and Employees Food Drive. With a grand total of over 500 tons of food, it is truly something to be proud of. Beginning with a request from his daughters back in 1987 to collect from co-workers....to over 300 Businesses participating in 2011. This is truly a lifetime achievement.
"One more can than last year," Edgar Burton
Once again we look on with hope as the The Edgar Burton Christmas Food Drive grows to record levels.
THANK YOU!!
